Developed by the Building Research Establishment, BREEAM is an environmental assessment method used to assess the environmental performance of buildings. Credits are available for various disciplines, including ecology.
The assessment can be, and is, used by property agents to promote the environmental credentials of buildings to potential buyers.
BREEAM accreditations are increasingly required by regulatory and government organisations, such as Housing Associations, Regional Development Agencies and Local Authorities. This is important given the increasing desire by funding partners, regulators and customers to see evidence of a reduced ecological footprint within the building industry.
Just Ecology provides surveys and assessments relating to the ecological value of site, protection of ecological features, enhancing site ecology, mitigating ecological impact, and long-term impact on biodiversity, enabling BREEAM credits to be claimed. BREEAM schemes worked on include the following but all BREEAM schemes are similar in their approach to ecological assessment:
Similar services undertaken include Eco-Homes and Code for Sustainable Homes assessments.
